Infrared (IR) radiation is the energy, or heat, that we feel from sunlight, a radiator or warm oven. Depending on their surface temperature, objects around us emit radiation, but since we can not see it, IR is more difficult to quantify. Although, IR films are more expensive than standard plastic films, recent greenhouse energy audits indicate that the return on investment is typically one year or less. More specifically, it is projected that when it’s time to replace the double poly, using an IRAC plastic can reduce heating requirements by up to 20 percent and reduce water drip on crops when installed properly (installation of film can be arranged by MGS upon request).

Formation of condensation is a major issue in a polyethylene greenhouses. Condensation droplets have been proven to reduce light transmission by as much as 50%. In addition to light quality, crop damage from insects, washout on seed beds and possible pathogen development may occur. Poly-AG’s anti-condensate films contain surface modifiers to help limit the formation of condensation droplets.
